Gigi's mom provided her home-cooked organic meals she needed. Her dad set up a daily exercise program and installed a swimming pool for the exercises. Both spent many years devoted to Gigi's care. Gigi was preceded in life by her mother, Josephine and father, George. Gigi will be missed by so many of her special friends, including lifelong friends, Joe and Debbie Biga who Gigi grew up and traveled with and the caretakers and her aids who cared for her in a loving way. She looked forward to her Bible study group which would meet weekly on Tuesdays. She held close in her heart, her love of Pastor Tyrone Burrell (SONS Ministry), Pastor Tim Clark (Ross Bible), Pastor Tom Seppo (Operation Transformation), and Youth for Christ. Gigi had a deep love of God, and her Christian beliefs were always her guidepost in life. Joe gave her strength and love to conquer any roadblock that came her way. Gigi was fortunate to be bolstered by her keen promoter, brother, Joe Mericka. Gigi's activities were supported by her family sisters, Judy Lombardo and Connie Yarbrough, and sister-in-law, Betty Mericka, who magically assisted her at The Blue Water Center. A $1 million campaign resulted in $2.2 million! Magical. A record amount of sponsorship money was raised with the red-carpet affair. Gigi's fundraising exceeded all expectations. The positions were done part-time simultaneously, Magic.įor 15 years, Gigi magically provided outstanding fundraising with the ability to cultivate new donor relationships while retaining a large base of established both individuals and corporations. This woman successfully assisted three different directors of advancement and alumni relations with planning and implementation of fundraising. From July 2007 to the present, she held three positions. She and Rob worked in harmony, with laughter and love until Robs' sudden passing in 2007. She was the head of a six-member management team that oversaw all office operations which included six additional branch offices. During their lunch, he was amazed by the depth and knowledge of this woman, so he offered her the position of FIRST Resource Development Specialist. "I am not sitting in a wheelchair forever doing nothing." Rob was her magic. Rob was the director of Blue Water Center for Independent Living (BWCIL). The biggest magical moment came in 1999 when Gigi's path crossed with Rob DeVary. Some days were great and sometimes not so good. Gigi tried IVIG treatments for several years with moderate success. It was found she had a disease that mimics ALS called Multifocal Motor Neuropathy (MMN). She read about her disease, literally everything. She graduated with honors from the University of Iowa and was misdiagnosed with ALS during that time. "My name is Georgette Gigi Mericka and it's a magical name!" ![]()
